Best Place for a Cup of Joe

If you’re like me, you can’t survive without your morning cup of coffee. The coffee at work is completely abysmal; I don’t understand who thinks coffee filtered through those plastic K-cups actually tastes good. So before I head out the door every morning, I make myself a Cuvee pour over to go. I wish I had the luxury of going to a coffee shop every morning and linger over a good cup with the Skimm and my Insta-feed, but this indulgence is reserved for blissful Saturdays. In anticipation of the weekend, and coffee Saturday, here are my favorite places to get a great cup of coffee in Austin:

Caffe Medici on West Lynn

Though the Congress location is walking distance from my apartment, my favorite location is the Medici on West Lynn in the Clarksville neighborhood. The original Caffe Medici location, this little gem serves delicious brews with a side of cozy. The warm house invites you in to share a cup of perfectly pressed Cuvee coffee with a friend or with a good book. I could stay here for hours, which works well, since they are open til 10 p.m. every night.

Houndstooth

These people are pretty serious about their coffee and perfecting the coffee shop experience. All baristas go through rigorous training and make an effort to stay on top of trends in the coffee industry. Their two Austin locations have a very hipster-friendly, modern vibe with polished concrete floors and beautiful, sleek furniture. This is a place that pleases both eye and palette, and I love running over to the location in the Frost Bank building when I need a good pick-me-up.

Mozart’s

I mentioned Mozart’s before for their amazing patio space, but you can’t talk about Austin coffee without bringing up this Austin icon. With expansive deck space perfect for taking in the views of Lake Austin and Westlake Hills, Mozart’s is a wonderful place for bottomless coffee refills while poring over a good magazine or munching on a good book. It’s also a great romantic spot to end a date, and was the last place my now boyfriend took me on our first date, so I have fond memories here.

Brew and Brew

Start your day with a hot brew and finish it off with a cold brewsky. Genius. This East Side coffee shop/bar serves up locally roasted coffee and globally sourced beers on tap. With free wifi and lots of space to spread out, it’s a nice place to spend the day working. So convenient when your mobile office has happy hour.

Radio

Just before you hit 71 on Manchaca (locals pronounce it “man-shack”, silent “a” on the end), sits Radio, also a dual purpose shop serving coffee all day and beers after noon. I’m a sucker for any place with string lights, so I love gathering a group of friends to sit outside and enjoy beers over some amazing Veracruz tacos. Radio often has great live music and movie events, so be sure to check out their event page.
